Hello! I'm so glad you're here.

Hello, I'm Allison Scott, editor and founder of Missing Piece Editorial Services. Thanks for stopping by!

I began Missing Piece in 2012 to focus on my passion: working closely with authors to develop their writing. With over ten years of in-house and freelance publishing experience, I have cultivated a deep understanding of developmental editing and insider industry know-how that I would love to share with you as you prepare your manuscript for publication. Whether you are in the early stages of writing, revising your manuscript to submit to agents, or looking for a final polish before self-publishing, I can help.

With a librarian for a mom, it is perhaps no surprise that I grew up with a love of reading. I knew from a young age that I wanted to make books my life's work. I pursued this goal at the University of California, Los Angeles, where I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English literature. I went on to earn my master's degree in English literature, specializing in children's literature, from Newcastle University in the UK. As a publishing professional, I've worked my way up in editorial acquisitions to Content Acquisitions Editor at an educational publisher—evaluating book proposals, signing up new projects, and developing manuscripts for publication.

My publishing experience has been in nonfiction and academic publishing, honing a keen understanding of how to craft books that instruct and inform. I acquire and develop professional development books for K-12 publishers, previously at Corwin and now at ASCD. As a freelance editor, I have developed and copyedited numerous academic books for higher education publishers, including Peter Lang, Pearson, and McGraw-Hill. You can see a selection of books I've edited on the home page. I love books that push the boundaries of current thinking and challenge readers to think or act in new ways.

I provide an array of editorial services for nonfiction and academic authors and also offer copyediting services for all authors (fiction as well as nonfiction). Please see the For Authors page for more information on how I can help.

I also work directly with publishers for developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Please see the For Publishers page for more details.

I look forward to talking with you about your next project!
